Gamakatsu hooks are forged from high-carbon steel to produce some of the strongest hooks on the market. Gamakatsu started hand making hooks in Japan in 1955. At the time, every hook was hand made and tempered out of steel. This process has allowed Gamakatsu to capture nearly 70% of the Japanese hook market and a large portion of the world wide hook market.
Gamakatsu has since automated it's hook making but still has the highest grade fishing hooks on the market today. Carbon-Steel is the preferred fishing hook material because of its ability to be strong and flexible.
Since high-carbon steel can corrode or rust easily these hooks are finished with black or bronze anodizing or tinned producing the distinctive colors Gamakatsu hooks are available in today.
